Book Blurb
She meant to help a ghost...not unleash a curse.
Amelia Dupree hasn’t seen the Woman in White since the night her brother died.
The ghost seems to have disappeared from the woods surrounding Asylum, Pennsylvania—that is, until Charlie Blue moves into the creepy old MacAllister House next door. Amelia can’t help liking him, even though she spent her childhood thinking his grandmother was a witch. And she definitely can’t ignore the connection between his arrival and the Woman in White’s return.
Then Amelia learns that the Woman in White is a prisoner, trapped between the worlds of the living and the dead. Devastated by the idea that her brother could be suffering a similar fate, Amelia decides to do whatever it takes to help the Woman in White find peace--and Charlie agrees to help her.
But when Amelia’s classmates start to drown in the Susquehanna River, one right after another, rumors swirl as people begin to connect the timing of Charlie’s arrival with the unexplained deaths. As Charlie and Amelia uncover the dark history of Asylum, they realize they may have unleashed an unspeakable evil. One they have to stop before everything they love is destroyed.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Amelia lost her brother Mark in a car accident not long ago. After that her father left. She and her mom were left to pick up the pieces. Amelia blames herself for her brother’s death since she made him take her home that night. Her life drastically changed and she retreated into herself.
She could see the ghostly woman in white who roamed the woods behind her house, but once her brother died the woman disappeared. Now Amelia stays up at night trying to catch a glimpse of her. She doesn’t sleep and she still has nightmares from that night when she does. The only thing that seems to bring her comfort is the ring she found in Mark’s pocket. She wears it on a chain around her neck so she won’t forget.
One night while she is up looking for the ghost a car arrives at her neighbor’s house. A boy her age gets out. She is surprised to learn that Ms. MacAllister has a grandson and he has now come to stay with her.
Things start to change for Amelia. She and Charlie grow closer as they start spending time together. However suspicions start to spread when girls are being found dead in the river. Something isn’t right and the town starts to blame Charlie. Then Amelia starts having weird dreams and sleepwalking. These things lead to something sinister and Amelia and Charlie are shocked when they learn what is really going on.
I didn’t really know what to expect with this book. It started out full of loss with Mark’s death. It affected Amelia to the point of retreating from life. The ghost was an interesting point in the plot. It was a puzzle that Amelia wanted to solve.
However the deaths of the teenage girls was pretty morbid and sad. The author seemed to skim over these aspects of the story. There didn’t seem to be a lot of emotion that followed. It was flat in my opinion, not really pulling at my emotions as I read the story.
I did like the relationship between Charlie and Amelia. However I didn’t like how Amelia treated Charlie at the end. That basically ruined a lot for me. I didn’t really like her character at the end. The ending was confusing and I’m not quite sure why things happened the way they did. So with that in mind I give this book a 3 out of 5.
