Badass: A Stepbrother SEAL Romance

I f**ked a SEAL—the human kind, the kind who shoots terrorists, sports rock hard abs and tattooed biceps, and scores an easy lay with every coed he ever wants.

I should’ve known better. I should be studying harbor seals’ breeding habits, not conducting my own research into mating rituals of the Navy variety.

He’s a jackass. An arrogant, womanizing, patronizing, Harley-riding jerk.

A one-night stand. One night of the most incredible sex I’ve ever had. Shane is trained to kill with his bare hands in 300 different ways—and he knows 300 ways to f**k me, too.

Now my father is engaged to his mother. And we’re heading to Mexico for the wedding. The prick is blackmailing me. He’s threatening to ruin their big day if I don’t surrender to his demands.

Quit is not in his vocabulary. I hate him, but I know he’ll never give up until he gets everything he wants.

Screw that! I won’t give up—I’ll never submit to America’s cockiest badass.

Toot's Review by Stephanie Silva

Badass is an amazing stepbrother romance novel that, fortunately, is a standalone. Don’t misunderstand me, I love series. However, when it is a great novel such as this, I can be too impatient because I truly need to find out what happens to the characters. In this novel Linda and Alana tell the complex, unlikely but beautiful love story of Cassie and Shane.

Cassie is a marine biologist, a grand student that is too focused on her studies and her job at the aquarium to focus on dating. Sure, there are some hot guys in town, specially, the military kind. However, she isn’t a chick that will throw herself at a man just because he is from the NAVY. She has self-respect and wants so much more than just one night. She never imagined that saving a baby sea lion would attract a sexy, human, SEAL that would change her life forever.

Shane is a US NAVY SEAL whose life is nothing more than rigorous training and missions. When he isn’t deployed in the middle of a dessert or some other dangerous locations, he is training the new recruits. Obviously, he has no time for dating and even if he did, there is no way he will bother with something serious. He is hot, he knows it, and use it to get any girl he wants for one night. That is his motto, just one night. However, a read head marine biologist and soon to be step sister is turning into his number one fantasy, obsession and maybe something more.

After a night full of pleasure with Cassie, Shane leaves for a 9 month mission that did nothing to stop him from thinking about the beautiful red heart that caught his attention. When he comes back home he is in shock by finding out that the girl that has been on his mind 24/7 for months will become his stepsister in a short while. The proper and decent things would be to leave her alone and get over that connection they seem to have. However, he is no reasonable guy. There is no way he will stop whatever is going on between them until his mother says “I do”. However, will he be able to let her go once they truly become stepsiblings?

What I truly loved about this book was that I could actually understand and feel the struggle that Cassie was feeling. She loves her father and has a deep connection with him that probably became stronger when her mother died. Therefore, it is pretty obvious that she is struggling between following her heart and doing what is best for her father. She knows that her father loves Shane’s mother and tried to stop herself and Shane but after a kiss and a caress she can’t protest anymore. Many would say she should have put more of a fight but when you love someone, even when you don’t know you do, fighting it is impossible. Shane has trouble dealing with this situation too. He hates when other people check Cassie out and even tells himself she is his, even if it is temporary. They both know they need to end things when the time comes but the more they are together the more they fall.

I must admit I wanted to slap Shane at some points of the novel. He can be such a rude jerk sometimes. Sure, it is part of his charm but I really thought Cassie shouldn’t have been so nice to him and let him do as he pleased. I truly think he needed a wakeup call, an admit-your-feelings-or-lose-her call. I think he got off easy but it might just be my opinion. I am pleased to announce you this book has a HEA. Nevertheless, our SEAL and redhead would have to go through a lot to ear in.

4 stars.
