Review: Evie's Knight (The Knight #1) by Kimberly Krey (YA)

Book Blurb

A steamy, yet clean Romance Novel.

When Evie falls in love with Calvin Knight, their young, virtuous romance conjures a truly wicked spell.

Evie always thought her eighteenth year would be magical, but so far it's not what she hoped for. Her best friend has gone wild, her love life is void, and she misses her mom more than ever. But life for Evie is about to change. Calvin Knight, the object of her fascination, is about to fall madly in love with her. Just one problem: Their love conjures a murderous woman from beyond the grave who wants Evie dead. The same demon who has haunted the Knight men for over four generations. Soon Calvin is forced to make a choice: Set Evie free and hope to evade the wrath of The Raven- haired Ghost, or use his newly gifted strengths to fight against her. If he chooses to fight and wins, Calvin will free the Knight men of this demonic witch. If he loses, Evie will become her next victim.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Evie Wylder’s mother walked out when she was a child and never came back. She is now in college and checks the newspaper everyday for her mother’s obituary. She knows she has her issues. So when those issues cause her to embarrass herself in front of Calvin Knight, she is a bit horrified. Calvin Knight is in her art class and rarely talks to anyone. However the day she humiliates herself, he chooses to sit behind her and actually have a conversation. She is shocked and excited. She is truly drawn to him.

However that day in class his drawing is presented to the class for critique. The haunted image gets to her. The woman he drew is of an ancestor that supposedly cursed the Knight men. It seems to come alive for Evie for a split second. Afterwards she notices a darkness that seems to be stalking her. It starts after Calvin and she start growing closer. She thinks she is crazy and dismisses it.

However the curse as everyone will learn is real. The woman who commanded the spell is coming after Evie and one of the Knight men. The Knight mean are hers to possess.

In this book, one of my favorite parts was the relationship between Evie and Calvin. It was soulmate quality. He would protect her any way he could even if that meant letting her go. The paranormal aspects were subtle in the beginning which added to Evie’s uncertainty. When the boys got their powers that was a bit out of nowhere. The reader is just as shocked as the characters. The battle was definitely a mental fight not just physical. That was an interesting twist. Jocelyn invaded their minds and tried to get them to do what she wanted.

It was an interesting storyline yet a good vs evil battle. The devastation of a lost love fueled the whole situation. The curse of the Knight me being the result of that loss. The women they love die at an early age. There was a lot jammed packed into the end of the book, but it seemed to work. I give it a 3.5 out of 5.
