Review & Book Promo: Darkness of Light (Darkness #1) by Stacey Marie Brown (PNR/NA)

Book Blurb

Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo.

Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.

When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for troubled teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.

Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could.

DARKNESS OF LIGHT is a Mature YA(16+)/New Adult Paranormal Romance.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Ember always has strange things happen around her. The principal and the sheriff are just waiting for proof to arrest her for what has been happening. Since they can’t prove she did anything they send her to Silverwood, a school for troubled teens as punishment.

While waiting to hear of her situation Ember notices Eli, a bad boy biker, who she is instantly drawn to. He is a leader at her new school and seems to be drawn to her as well, only he doesn’t want to be. He fights his feelings and treats her with contempt but always is there. She is confused about his actions and feelings. Plus her hallucinations are getting worse. Strange things are happening again and she is scared. Something isn’t right. No one will tell her what is going on. She is afraid she is going crazy especially when she keeps dreaming about a strange man named Torrin. He claims he is trying to protect her.

She is also unsure but something is stalking her in the woods. She knows something strange is going on and the knowledge is just out her reach. It is finally Eli and his club that elude to the truth and Ember is completely shocked. She is forced to do something she truly regrets but she can’t run away from what she truly is.

I love books with mystical beings in it. This was especially fun to read as Ember had no clue that what she was seeing was real. She didn’t know what she was or that the otherworld even existed. Her struggle made an excellent storyline. I also liked the hot and cold feelings Eli threw her way. His struggle only added to hers. I truly liked the chemistry that existed between them. I hope they are able to explore it more in future books.

The storyline itself was compelling. I kept trying to figure out what was really going on. The author did a great job giving tidbits of information but not enough to give anything away. The ending was tragic but enough to lead into the next book. Ember has to make a tough decision but she is determined to control her destiny. I am excited to read the next book. I give this one a 4 out of 5.
