Evangeline is an elemental fire witch just as her sister Jade is. However Evie is part faerie which cause more problems. Her faerie blood causes iron sickness and the land of faerie calls to her through the blood running in her veins. She is getting worse and knows that she will have to enter the forest and be apart of the world of Faerie. Her sister Jade is all human and a year older than Evie. However since their mother had died, Jade was in charge of Evie’s care.

Evie’s Faerie side is calling and her time is running out. She knows that she will have to leave Jade in order to go. It is dangerous for Jade as she is fully human. When she finally gives in and enters the forest, she meets Jack. He surprises her.

Evershade: A Dark Faerie Tale # 1

Shade is special as she is able to hear voices. These voices tell her to do things. So when she is walking home from school one day after her mother forgot her, the voices send her into a warehouse where she witnesses a battle between Jack and Evangeline. Evie now calls herself Vange and fights against Jack. Shade has no idea what she has just walked into.

Jack takes Shade to the oracle in his kingdom. The oracle, Ilarial, has been waiting for Shade. It has been revealed that Shade is the halfling to travel to the magical Santiron Fountains to retrieve water. She is the only one who can do so. Shade is shocked at the news she hears about herself, the world she has been thrust into and the quest she is asked to go on.

The trip is full of danger and a group of volunteers are sent with her to keep her safe. She must travel across the land of faerie through separate kingdoms. The situation and people Shade encounters on her journey brings her paranoia, fear, confusion and happiness. Her life will never be the same.

Ever Fire: A Dark Faerie Tale # 2

Shade returns to her human life with Dylan in tow. The blood bond hasn’t broken and he accompanies her to be close. Shade is confused as her feelings begin to grow for him.

When she is summoned back to meet with the returned king of Santiran, Shade learns many shocking things. An old friend reunites with her, a death falls on the group of warriors and another leaves the group. Shade is shook to the core and needs to go home to find peace for her soul.

Shade is now in the middle of the war that rages in the land of faerie.

Ever Fire: A Dark Faerie Tale # 3

Shade feels empty and broken. Her magic is gone and she doesn’t know what to do. She is physically healing from her time as a captive, but mentally she is falling apart. Her powers have been bound by an ancient. Corb is the only one it could be and her new quest is to locate him and get him to unbind them.

She needs her best friend Brisa to help find the faerie Stanis who it is rumored can help. She also has to choose between Soap and Dylan, making the choice of who has her heart. Her quilt and anguish are getting the best of her.

Everything changes when a friend turns on her and delivers her to her enemy. Shade is caught in a web of evil and has to fight her way free in order to claim her rightful kingdom of faerie.

The Cursed: A Dark Faerie Tale # 3.5

Artha, the Unseelie Ancient, has been awakened from his imprisoned slumber by his direct descendant Aveta. Her plans of attacking the faerie kingdoms are in full swing. She is in the midst of plans for capturing Shade also. She needs Shade and her power in order to take over the land of faerie. When Shade escaped with the help of friends, Aveta went on the war path.

Arthas finds his great great granddaughter a bit wanting. She has her uses for now. He has his own agenda and she will do her part in it before he takes over and exacts his revenge.

This is the whole series in one, which I really like. I was able to finish one book and then instantly start another. I liked the storyline and found it action packed. The royal intrigue that existed in the world of faerie was fascinating. Stories of this kind have always been an interest to me, where the setting was in the land of faerie and the main characters were faeries and humans alike.

The character of Shade was compelling in which her story of how she came to be and what she could do was what pulled me in. The creativity that went into this series is phenomenal. The cast of characters were all unique and their individual stories entertaining. I know more will be learned as the series moves forward.

However, Shade was the one that irritated me the most out of all the characters. In the beginning she was a likable character, you even felt sorry for the way she was treated and the surprises that were dropped on her. Then when things started getting hard, she would fold under the pressure or try to avoid the situation all together. It was annoying. She cried a lot and swam in self-pity constantly. I consistently kept thinking she needed to get a grip as I read through the story. This series is a great read with a great cast of characters and an exciting storyline. I give it a 4 out of 5.
