Review : Demon Kissed by H.M. Ward (YA/PNR)

Book Blurb

The Valefar boy tricked Ivy Taylor into kissing him, but he took much more than a kiss – he stole her soul and left her within inches of death. By surviving, Ivy is drawn into the conflict between the Martis and the Valefar. The war between these two immortal forces has raged for millennia without distraction. Until now. Ivy is an anomaly—she is the only person who has ever walked away from a demon kiss alive. Her survival gives her unique and deadly abilities. Too powerful to ignore, Ivy is a threat to both armies. These two ancient enemies will stop at nothing to kill the seventeen-year-old. Surviving is nothing new for headstrong Ivy, but her survival has never depended on another person before. This time it does. And if she misplaces her trust, she's dead. To her horror, she starts falling in love at the worst possible time—with the enemy. He appears to be protecting her. But she can't be certain if he is trying to help her, or help himself to her power. For Ivy, trusting the right person is the difference between love and survival, or a deadly demon kiss.

Toot's Review

Demon Kissed is a YA series that's premise is literally good vs. evil, demons vs. angels. The story revolves around a Long Island teen whom on her 17th birthday is accosted by her then semi-boyfriend with a kiss but like any good girl, she bit him back and draws blood. She later finds out that he's a demon or Valefar. His birthday kiss had also stolen most of her soul but miraculously she's survived. As a result from the ordeal, she has developed a mark above her eye which indicates she's part angel or Martis. Because she bit the boy and ingested his blood, she is also now part demon and destined to rule the underworld as queen all because she fell in love. Yeah prophecies can suck!

I won't go into the whole book because this is just one in a whole series. I did listen to this book on audio and it was good although I must warn you, if you have an aversion to listening to a New Jersey/Long Island accent for hours on end, I probably would read it instead. I did really enjoy the book and it had tons of twists and turns. It honestly kept me guessing right up until the end. You aren't sure who's truly good and who's truly evil despite having demon or angel in them. It also had a wonderful romance even though it's a YA but trust me, there's  nothing more than kissing going on. I will warn the adults though, the main character Ivy is definitely a mixed up, hormonal, angst ridden teen and did whine a little much for me but I'll definitely continue reading the series, seeing there's only the first book done in audio. For a YA, I liked it and it was a good start to a series.

3 1/2 out of 5 books
I liked it, you may or may not.
